MATARIKI 2022

Matariki is about celebrating the Maori New Year and acknowledging our traditional ways of knowing.  The rising of Matariki in the morning sky is observed in the month of Pipiri (around June & July). Māori wait until the lunar phase of Tangaroa (the last quarter phase of the moon) to celebrate the rising with a ceremony called ‘Whaāngai i te Hautapu’
