Hāpai Huānga

An offender advocate programme

Hāpai Huānga (HH) is an initiative that is being partnered through the Rotorua Police and Te Arawa Whanau Ora. The focus is to work with offenders involved in family harm and providing paeārahi (navigation) support to this group. The paeārahi work with whanau in group settings and on a one-to-one to basis, setting personal goals and addressing issues that address the offending associated with family harm in a way that empowers the individual to make some positive changes in their decisions and their behaviours with a strong focus on cultural identity.

Paeārahi also work alongside the Family Harm Team at Te Roopu a Iwi - Maatua Whangai. The work often starts in the police cells or referrals from the Police Family Safety System (FSS) and referrals are also accepted from the Tier 2 Family Harm table.
