A New Chapter Begins: Welcoming Hariata Vercoe MNZM as Chief Executive

A new chapter begins for Te Arawa Whānau Ora as Hariata Vercoe MNZM is appointed Chief Executive, bringing decades of leadership and a steadfast commitment to whānau wellbeing.
February 25, 2026

There are moments in the life of an organisation that feel both grounding and expansive at the same time — moments where experience meets opportunity, and legacy meets the future.

Today is one of those moments for Te Arawa Whānau Ora.

We are delighted to welcome Hariata Vercoe MNZM as our new Chief Executive.

Hariata brings more than four decades of dedication to Māori health and community development. Her journey has spanned frontline services, organisational leadership, and governance — always guided by a deep commitment to whānau wellbeing and kaupapa Māori values. She is widely respected for her steady leadership, integrity, and ability to bring people together around a shared vision.

For many within our collective, Hariata is not a new face. She has walked alongside Te Arawa Whānau Ora since its early days and has led one of our valued partner organisations with strength and clarity. Her appointment feels less like an arrival and more like a continuation of a shared journey.

Recognised nationally for her service as a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit, Hariata leads with heart, wisdom, and a strong belief in empowering others. She values collaboration, coaching, and building environments where innovation and growth can flourish.

As she steps into this role, she does so with a deep understanding of our whakapapa, our kaupapa, and the aspirations of our community.

With Hariata at the helm, we look forward to strengthening our impact, nurturing our kaimahi, and continuing to walk boldly alongside the whānau we serve.

A new chapter begins in April — and we are excited for the journey ahead.

Nau mai, haere mai e te rangatira.
