Tēnei Au showcases 20 painted works by students who attend Kokiri, an alternative education centre which is run by Te Taumata o Ngāti Whakaue Iho Ake Trust.
The exhibition was an opportunity for the rangatahi to share their stories and heritage through the creation of visual whakapapa.
The korero accompanying their colourful works of art are powerful and inspirational.
Tēnei Au opened in late July and will be on display in the Council Galleria until 17 October.
Members of the public are welcome to view the artworks during Council opening hours – 8am to 5pm. The galleria is on the first floor of the Haupapa Street council building.
The galleria has been used for art exhibitions for just over two years, proving an opportunity for local artists to showcase their work and tell their stories, in recognition of the contribution of art and culture to the Rotorua district.
