“If we want every tamariki and rangatahi to succeed in schooling and education, we need their families and communities to get more involved” says Linda Biggs of the JR McKenzie Trust. This Trust is one of NZs largest and oldest community funding trusts. They have prioritised a focus on education. “There’s oodles of evidence that if children and young people succeed in education, their future health and wellbeing, and that of their own children, will be better. So how can we ensure success for every child and young person? That’s what the Trust is interested in learning more about and investing in”.They have partnered with Inspiring Communities, Excel Rotorua, the Rotorua Community Youth Centre, Rotorua Trust and the local Principal’s Association to organise a full day Workshop on Thursday next week.“There’s huge awareness in Rotorua of the disconnect between lots of families and whanau and education and training. And there’s fantastic innovation underway here to bridge that divide” says Barbara MacLennan of Inspiring Communities, who is helping organise the event.
