Any whānau who have experienced financial hardship as a direct result of Covid-19, such as loss of income, can apply for the Whānau Direct grant. The funding is available to help with essential living expenses, including the power bill, Wi-Fi or internet, rent, firewood, and urgent assistance with kai, particularly for households with children. Applicants must provide proof of residence and evidence of the expense, such as a screenshot of their utility bill. Payments are made within 48 hours and paid directly to the supplier where applicable.
Virtual Coordination Hub Staff are working from home to field calls to our 0508 hotline. The coordination hub has been set-up to respond to calls and filter inquiries. The team send Whānau Direct applications to a central email address where the information is loaded. Paeārahi contact the families directly to ensure they’ve provided the correct information and to process the payment. The virtual coordination hub number is 0508 TE ARAWA (0508 832 729) and the line is open Monday to Friday, 8.30am - 4.30pm.
