Science & Technology Wānanga
19th – 22nd January 2015 – Whakaue Marae, Maketu
Waitai- Matakōkiri ki tai
This invitation is extended to Ngāti Whakaue ākonga aged between 7 and 14 years and members of their whānau.
The main purpose of Matakōkiri is to provide science and technology activities for their ākonga that would not normally be available to them. For this wānanga, Waitai is the kaupapa with an emphasis on marine life (ecology/ biology), kaimoana and kaitiakitanga.
Please note: This wānanga is a noho that will be based at Whakaue Marae, Maketu where we will be staying for 3 nights. For this reason parents and/or caregivers will be required to stay for the duration of the wānanga as Kaihāpai.
Our wānanga will begin by acknowledging and learning about our tupuna, kaitiaki & Whakaue ki tai connections. Some of the locations we’re planning to visit are:
- Ōkurei
- Maketu Shoreline
- Maketu Estuary
- Little Waihi Estuary
Registrations for this wānanga will close at 5:00pm on Monday 8th December 2014. Please read the criteria carefully to ensure you have completed all the requirements. The final programme will be confirmed early December along with important updates.
If you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact Renee Gillies (021 651 026) or send emails to renee@taumata.org.nz
