This programme has been developed in collaboration with Korowai Aroha, Rotorua Area Public Health Services (RAPHS) and supported by Lakes DHB.
"Our intention is to visit a different Ngati Pikiao Marae each month and make it easier for whanau to access health services", explains Health Services Manager, Puamiria Maaka.
"We are focusing on checks for health issues that are affecting Māori, for example, diabetes, heart disease, smoking and cervical smears."
Experience suggests that wāhine in particular, are not coming in to the clinic to have an important health checks completed. To incentivise this, the Rūnanga will have a hamper up for grabs to wāhine who complete this check.
In addition, there will have mirimiri practitioners available to work their magic, fun activities to keep rangatahi occupied and light refreshments will also be available.
- Pounamunui Marae has been confirmed for September and updates on dates and future venues will be posted to Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Pikiao's Facebook page.
