Maketu Health & Social Services
Maketu Health & Social Services began operation as a health & social service agency under the umbrella of Te Ihu o Te Waka Trust in 1996 and became a separate entity in 2001. A small Agency proud of its ingenuity, drive determination and vision of staff and trustees to build a high quality Kaupapa Maori health & social services agency servicing the Maketu community.
Significant growth in the Agency over the past 10 years has resulted in Maketu Health & Social Services now having a staff of 17, and holding 14 contracts for services from health & Social Services funding agencies. Achievements include a strong client base, multiple successful external audits, provision of a range of health and social services, a service with ISO accreditation ISO and Mental Health sector Standards and owning a centrally located health & social services building.
Today Maketu has a population of 1,400 people and the Western Bay District Council have projected a population increase to 5,000 people by 2017. Maketu Health & Social Services also have a plan to grow and develop services to meet the communities growing and emerging needs, matching the projected population growth in the Maketu ward.
Their focus is on helping provide whānau with the tools of empowerment so they can actively make positive change:
This can be seen in their Vision:
