Our Wai Warriors enjoyed a series of fun, team bonding activities at Lake Okareka during their first Kaitiakitanga Day (K-Day) on Sunday 25th February.
Before the day kicked-off, kaumātua, Paraone Pirika, spoke to our rangatahi about looking after both the environment and their bodies, and acknowledged Tuhourangi as mana whenua of the area.
Te Waiariki Purea Trust under the experienced guidance of Kelley korau then took our warriors through activities based around waka ama, waka tangata, ki-o-rahi, and problem-solving games. The team did a wonderful job engaging with them, providing a great mix of fun and challenging activities, while our warriors stepped up to the challenge, taking on all tasks with enthusiasm.
Next month our Wai Warriors will be back at Lake Okareka, focussing on water safety skills and revisiting waka to build on their new skills.
