The Smear Your Mea campaign has gone viral since high profile kapa haka performer Talei Morrison laid the challenge down last month. It was through kapa haka she decided to highlight her recent journey with cervical cancer and encourage women throughout the country to have a smear test.

Te Arawa Whānau Ora providers, Korowai Aroha and Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Pikiao have had a great response.  Te Arawa Whānau Ora and the PHO are funding free smears for all wāhine who come along.

Korowai Aroha general manager, Hariata Vercoe says it’s been a fantastic response.  “We would really would like to thank all the women who have responded to the Cervical screening kaupapa ‘Smear Your Mea’,” she says.

We are interested in feedback if we were to hold a screening evening once a month and would this is something our whanau would attend?”
