A free fruit tree pruning session was held for whānau following the success of the My Backyard Garden Project.
The afternoon workshop was held at Te Puea Orchard, Tikitere [August 26] where owner Carl Dibley demonstrated how to tend and care for fruit trees to ensure a bountiful harvest.
This session was organised with the help of Te Rangikaheke Kiripatea who helped co-ordinate the My Backyard Garden Project earlier this year. The initiative saw 58 Rotorua families and eight local kindergartens given free vegetable gardens and taught to grow their own food.
Among the organisations supporting it was Healthy Families Rotorua with Te Arawa Whānau Ora and Tipu Ora providing the plants.
