Healthy Families Rotorua welcomed their new manager Mapihi Rahuruhi to their team in October.
Mapihi, who has Ngāti Pikiao, Ngāti Makino, Ngāti Kea/Tuara and Ngāti Waiora whakapapa, has returned home to Rotorua after several years in Wellington where she held the lead role for Waka Hourua, a suicide prevention programme for Māori and Pasifika communities run by Te Rau Matatini Trust in partnership with Le Va.
Mapihi says she hopes her work with families, communities, elders, and decision makers in both government and non-government organisations to develop community strategies, initiatives and activities, will help her to support the Healthy Families Rotorua team to enable health champions within the local community.
We want to progress even further from collaborating with our partners and the community, to seeing ‘collabora-ACTION’ happening. We want to see our community making that journey towards wellbeing, and it’s about focusing our efforts to ensure people are moving from mauri noho to mauri ora.”
